Relief Medical Technologist: Peripheral Laboratory at Lancet Laboratories (September 2026)

Lancet Laboratories is recruiting a qualified Relief Medical Technologist to join its Peripheral Laboratory team across the Central Region of South Africa. This permanent position offers an excellent opportunity for experienced laboratory professionals to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services while supporting multiple laboratory locations.

The successful candidate will perform diagnostic laboratory testing, analyze and verify patient samples, maintain laboratory quality standards, and provide accurate results that assist healthcare professionals in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The role requires flexibility to work across Bloemfontein, Welkom, Kimberley, George, and Mossel Bay.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic laboratory testing and verify patient results.
• Analyze laboratory samples in accordance with approved procedures.
• Collaborate with pathologists on technical laboratory matters.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment.
• Perform quality control and troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant laboratory environment.
• Follow infection prevention and biohazard waste disposal procedures.
• Support internal and external quality assurance audits.
• Report incidents, equipment failures, and corrective actions.
• Complete laboratory information system documentation accurately.
• Participate in training, seminars, and continuing professional development (CPD).
• Train interns, students, and other laboratory personnel when required.
• Maintain professional, ethical, and customer-focused service standards.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
• National Diploma in Biomedical Technology or BSc in Medical Laboratory Science.
• Current HPCSA registration in the relevant discipline.
• 2–3 years of relevant working experience as a Medical Technologist.
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• Good self-management and problem-solving ability.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow laboratory procedures.

Special Requirement

The successful candidate must be available to work across Lancet Laboratories' Central Region, including Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Welkom, George, and Mossel Bay, as operational needs require.
