Maintenance Technician – Production (Plant and Equipment Workshop) at Kenya Airways PLC

Kenya Airways PLC is seeking a Maintenance Technician to work in its Production Plant and Equipment Workshop. The role focuses on inspecting, repairing, modifying, replacing, overhauling, and testing aircraft support equipment used across the Kenya Airways and third-party aircraft fleet.

The successful candidate will also support maintenance activities involving workshop machinery, aircraft tools, equipment, and tooling. This position requires practical technical competence, knowledge of maintenance procedures, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work with different craft-based skills while maintaining proper documentation and serviceability standards.

Responsibilities include:

• Carry out maintenance, repair, major overhaul, modification, and testing tasks on aircraft support equipment components and aircraft tools.
• Maintain equipment, machinery, and tooling to ensure continuous availability for internal and external customers.
• Complete assigned maintenance activities within the required turnaround time while minimizing unnecessary use of resources and materials.
• Inspect aircraft support equipment, workshop machinery, and tooling to identify defects using the appropriate Component Maintenance Manual (CMM).
• Carry out service bulletins on equipment, machinery, and tooling in accordance with OEM specifications.
• Fabricate required equipment, tools, and piece parts according to OEM specifications and engineering orders.
• Inspect, repair, and overhaul machinery used within technical department workshops and hangars.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are properly documented and signed off to maintain accurate and up-to-date component history.
• Carry out testing and verification of equipment following maintenance, repair, modification, or overhaul activities.
• Work to maintain a zero-fault or failure rate for equipment and machinery released after maintenance or overhaul.
• Adhere to company safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Report incidents and accidents according to established company procedures.
• Participate in 5S audits, first aid activities, and fire marshal drills.
• Carry out security checks in accordance with the Engineering Security Document Annex 8.
• Communicate with internal customers to give and receive information concerning assigned duties.
• Plan and execute tasks allocated by the supervisor.
• Apply health and safety requirements and risk assessments in daily maintenance activities.
• Use standard practices relevant to the assigned work area, including welding, soldering, crimping, machining, and other applicable technical activities.
• Troubleshoot task-level problems in accordance with standard operating procedures and escalate issues when required.
• Make decisions regarding allocated tasks in line with approved standard operating procedures.

Qualifications required:

• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship programme.
• Alternatively, possession of a relevant KNEC Engineering Diploma or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Computer literacy.
• Demonstrated competence in maintenance activities.
• Demonstrated competence in at least one craft-based skill, such as welding and fabrication, carpentry, or electrical wiring.
• At least 3 years of component maintenance experience or completion of a 2-year apprenticeship programme.
• Basic knowledge of aviation legislation and regulations.
• Knowledge of industrial safety standards.
• Ability to interpret and use appropriate maintenance data.
• Experience using relevant equipment, technology, and/or IT systems in day-to-day work.
• Knowledge of material specifications and MSDS requirements.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements and practical application of risk assessments.
• Basic capability in standard technical practices relevant to the assigned work area.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical tasks under supervision and according to standard operating procedures.
• Good communication skills for working with supervisors, colleagues, and internal customers.
• Ability to plan and execute allocated technical tasks effectively.
