Maintenance Technician – Production (Avionics/Mechanical Workshop) at Kenya Airways PLC

Kenya Airways PLC is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join its Production Avionics/Mechanical Workshop. The role involves carrying out inspection, cleaning, repair, modification, replacement, overhaul, testing, and certification activities on aircraft components supporting the Kenya Airways fleet and third-party operators.

The successful candidate will work within the applicable workshop approval system and certification scope while maintaining high maintenance, safety, and quality standards. The position also requires accurate technical documentation, effective prioritization of components, and compliance with KCAA and company regulations to support aircraft availability and schedule integrity.

Responsibilities include:

• Carry out pre-inspection, disassembly, cleaning, inspection, repair, modification, rectification, replacement, overhaul, and testing of aircraft components and aircraft tools.
• Certify completed work within the applicable workshop approval system and individual approval scope.
• Complete assigned maintenance activities within the required turnaround time to ensure continuous availability of serviceable components.
• Conduct pre-inspection and detailed inspection of aircraft components to identify defects in accordance with the appropriate Component Maintenance Manual (CMM).
• Certify own work or other technicians' work where applicable approvals permit.
• Conduct daily audits of tools, equipment, and machines to confirm their serviceability.
• Ensure maintenance documentation is properly completed and signed to maintain accurate and up-to-date component history.
• Adhere to company safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Report incidents and accidents according to established company procedures.
• Participate in 5S audits, first aid activities, and fire marshal drills.
• Review safety and quality findings and ensure immediate corrective actions are implemented within the required timeframe.
• Carry out security checks in accordance with the Engineering Security Document Annex 8.
• Interpret the hub critical list to identify priority components and ensure their timely delivery.
• Implement Service Bulletins (SBs) and remain aware of changes made to CMMs as communicated by Development Engineering.
• Communicate with internal customers regarding assigned maintenance duties and component requirements.
• Plan daily execution of tasks allocated by the supervisor.
• Apply health and safety requirements and risk assessment procedures in practical workshop activities.
• Use appropriate maintenance data when carrying out assigned tasks.
• Apply standard technical practices relevant to the work area, including soldering, crimping, machining, and other applicable activities.
• Troubleshoot task-level issues in accordance with standard operating procedures and escalate matters when necessary.
• Make decisions regarding allocated tasks within the limits of approved standard operating procedures.
• Remain current on all mandatory training requirements.

Qualifications required:

• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship programme.
• Alternatively, possession of a relevant KNEC Engineering Diploma or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Computer literacy.
• Demonstrated competence in maintenance activities.
• Training in at least one relevant skill-based technical area.
• At least 3 years of component maintenance experience or completion of a 2-year apprenticeship programme.
• Basic knowledge of aviation legislation and regulations.
• Knowledge of industrial safety standards.
• Ability to use appropriate equipment, technology, and IT systems for day-to-day work.
• Knowledge of material specifications and MSDS requirements.
• Understanding of health and safety requirements and practical application of risk assessments.
• Ability to interpret and use appropriate maintenance data.
• Basic capability in standard technical practices relevant to the workshop, including soldering, crimping, and machining.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical tasks under supervision and according to standard operating procedures.
• Good communication skills when working with internal customers, supervisors, and colleagues.
• Ability to plan and execute allocated maintenance tasks effectively.
