Mechanical Engineer at ALAF Limited Tanzania

ALAF Limited Tanzania is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the reliability, efficiency and continuous improvement of mechanical equipment and systems across its manufacturing operations in Dar es Salaam. The position focuses on equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, engineering projects and production support to help ensure safe, efficient and uninterrupted plant operations.

The successful candidate will contribute to preventive and predictive maintenance activities, resolve recurring mechanical failures and support engineering projects from planning through implementation. This role is suitable for a Mechanical Engineering professional with experience in manufacturing or heavy industrial environments and strong technical problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Develop, implement and review preventive and predictive maintenance programmes for plant mechanical equipment.
• Lead root-cause analysis of recurring mechanical breakdowns and implement lasting engineering solutions.
• Plan and execute engineering projects, equipment modifications and installations within agreed scope, budget and timelines.
• Manage spare parts planning, technical specifications and coordination with contractors and equipment suppliers.
• Provide day-to-day technical support to production to restore equipment availability and minimise downtime.
• Ensure engineering and maintenance activities comply with plant safety, environmental and statutory requirements.

Qualifications required:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in maintenance or plant engineering within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• Sound knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance systems and root-cause failure analysis.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and prepare technical specifications for equipment and projects.
• Experience coordinating engineering projects, contractors and spare parts planning.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and coordination abilities.
• Strong commitment to plant safety standards.
