Mechanical Technician at ALAF Limited Tanzania

ALAF Limited Tanzania is seeking a qualified Mechanical Technician to support the reliability, availability and efficient operation of mechanical machinery and equipment at its manufacturing plant in Dar es Salaam. The role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and equipment installation to help minimise downtime and maintain efficient production.

The successful candidate will work closely with production and maintenance teams to address equipment breakdowns, maintain machinery and support continuous improvement initiatives. This opportunity is suitable for a technically skilled professional with practical mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing, steel or heavy industrial environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance on production machinery and mechanical equipment to minimise unplanned downtime.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and perform corrective repairs on plant equipment.
• Maintain and repair equipment such as rolling mills, conveyors, presses, pumps and gearboxes.
• Assist with the installation, alignment and commissioning of new mechanical systems and equipment upgrades.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards and spare parts usage reports.
• Work with the production team to resolve equipment breakdowns quickly.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving equipment reliability.
• Follow all plant health, safety and environmental procedures.
• Observe safe maintenance practices and applicable plant safety requirements.

Qualifications required:

• Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Practical experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing, steel or heavy industrial plant.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals and maintenance schedules.
• Hands-on competence in mechanical fault diagnosis, welding, fitting, bearing replacement and general machine repair.
• Good understanding of workplace safety standards and safe maintenance practices.
• Ability to work shifts and respond to equipment breakdowns.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.
