Mechanical Planner at Perseus Mining Limited

Perseus Mining Limited is seeking an experienced Mechanical Planner to support maintenance planning and reliability activities in Dar es Salaam. The position plays an important role in minimising equipment downtime, improving equipment reliability and availability, and supporting production performance through effective maintenance planning.

The Mechanical Planner will work with the Planning Superintendent and other multidisciplinary teams to ensure mechanical maintenance activities are properly scoped, resourced and scheduled. The role also involves maintaining accurate maintenance information within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), supporting maintenance execution, reporting and informed decision-making.

Responsibilities include:

• Comply with the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System, site procedures and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
• Promote a positive safety culture and encourage safe working practices among employees, contractors and other personnel.
• Identify, communicate and address potential hazards and unsafe conditions.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox meetings, incident reporting and investigations.
• Conduct and participate in formal and informal risk assessments.
• Support effective maintenance planning and reliability processes to improve equipment reliability and achieve maintenance KPIs.
• Review approved work requests and create, update and maintain work orders in the CMMS.
• Develop detailed job plans, task lists, work scopes, job steps, labour requirements, materials and estimated durations.
• Develop and maintain mechanical maintenance plans covering preventive, predictive, corrective, breakdown, statutory and shutdown activities.
• Prioritise maintenance work according to safety, production criticality, equipment condition and available resources.
• Coordinate with Mechanical Supervisors, Technicians, Operations, Stores, Procurement, Engineering, Reliability and other stakeholders to ensure work is ready for execution.
• Ensure required spare parts, tools, materials, specialist services, equipment and other resources are available before scheduled maintenance.
• Monitor work-order progress and ensure timely completion and accurate status updates.
• Adjust maintenance schedules according to operational priorities, equipment condition, resource availability and emerging maintenance requirements.
• Maintain and update Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedules and support continuous improvement of PM programmes.
• Maintain accurate equipment records, Bills of Materials (BOMs), job plans, task lists, maintenance strategies, equipment hierarchies and other CMMS master data.
• Ensure maintenance planning data, work-order information, technical documentation and supporting records are accurate and current.
• Participate in shutdown planning, risk assessments, work-pack development, resource planning and post-maintenance reviews.
• Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of significant mechanical equipment failures and support corrective and reliability improvement actions.
• Support the preparation of annual mechanical maintenance budgets, cost forecasts and resource requirements.
• Prepare and distribute maintenance performance reports covering planning, scheduling, backlog, PM compliance and relevant maintenance KPIs.
• Build positive and professional working relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
• Perform other duties within the scope of the role as directed by management.

Qualifications required:

• Minimum of five years’ experience in mechanical maintenance planning, preferably in mining, mineral processing, heavy industry or a similar operational environment.
• Ability to read vendor manuals and identify relevant equipment parts and requirements.
• Ability to develop detailed and executable maintenance work packages.
• Ability to interpret OEM and vendor manuals, mechanical drawings, equipment specifications and technical documentation.
• Good understanding of mechanical equipment used in mining and mineral processing plants, including crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, screens, feeders, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems and valves.
• Good understanding of mechanical maintenance safety requirements, risk assessment, isolation/LOTO requirements, lifting requirements, confined-space requirements and safe work practices.
• Experience using Pronto CMMS or SAP.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Valid approved driver’s licence and ability to operate company/site vehicles where required.
• Trade qualification or Diploma in maintenance or another related field.
• Technical training or demonstrated experience with mining and mineral-processing plant mechanical equipment and systems is desirable.
• Knowledge of lubrication, condition monitoring, vibration analysis, alignment, balancing and other mechanical reliability practices is desirable.
• Strong communication, teamwork, integrity, accountability and organisational skills.
