Plant Electrical Supervisor at Perseus Mining Limited

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is seeking an experienced Plant Electrical Supervisor to coordinate electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities within its process plant in Mwanza, Tanzania. The position is responsible for prioritizing repairs and maintenance, supervising maintenance personnel and contractors, and ensuring plant electrical and instrumentation work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with company standards.

The Plant Electrical Supervisor will work closely with Process Plant Production Shift Supervisors to maintain reliable plant operations and minimize equipment downtime. The role also involves leading the electrical maintenance team, supporting employee development, overseeing shutdowns and start-ups, troubleshooting equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, maintenance, and reporting requirements.

Responsibilities include:

• Adhere to company policies and procedures relating to safety, environment, health, and community relations.
• Promote the company's Zero Harm philosophy and lead initiatives that improve understanding of safe working practices.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with Perseus OHS&E and community relations policies and procedures.
• Understand and apply Tanzania Mining and OSHA regulations relevant to engineering and safety requirements.
• Ensure maintenance personnel understand their OHSE responsibilities and hold them accountable through appropriate management processes.
• Participate in relevant incident investigations.
• Understand the importance of community relations and the relationship between mining operations and the local community.
• Monitor team member fatigue exposures.
• Lead the Process Plant Electrical Maintenance Team to achieve quality outcomes and procedural compliance.
• Lead by example and provide positive direction while working effectively under pressure.
• Support the performance management and professional development of direct reports through training, coaching, feedback, appraisals, and recognition.
• Provide input into performance management, termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
• Negotiate work priorities with Operations and adjust maintenance schedules and plans according to operational requirements.
• Direct and monitor the work of maintenance personnel and contractors.
• Supervise preventative Process Plant maintenance in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations while maintaining safety and production KPIs.
• Prioritize and coordinate responses to Process Plant equipment breakdowns and failures to minimize processing downtime.
• Support training and development of assistants and apprentices.
• Contact maintenance on-call personnel when required.
• Set up and supervise emergency work and scheduled overtime activities.
• Ensure procedural paperwork is completed and submitted on time.
• Ensure PMG and contract workers have the necessary tools to comply with procedure requirements.
• Establish or adjust work schedules based on production requirements, available manpower, capacities, emergency work, and scheduled overtime.
• Ensure Control and Instrumentation Systems are calibrated, operational, and properly maintained.
• Oversee maintenance plant shutdowns and start-ups.
• Carry out maintenance, repair, and inspection of instrumentation, electrical, and control equipment across the process plant.
• Perform planned maintenance in accordance with the electrical maintenance management system.
• Carry out plant modifications in accordance with approved drawings, standards, and work instructions.
• Maintain accurate inspection and test records in line with legislation and plant safety and quality requirements.
• Troubleshoot faulty or defective electrical, control, and instrumentation equipment.
• Scope repairs and prepare accurate material requirements for Process Plant Electrical and Instrumentation maintenance activities while maintaining budget awareness.
• Analyze work problems and recommend measures to improve equipment and maintenance performance, product quality, working conditions, and equipment utilization.
• Monitor maintenance team productivity and housekeeping while ensuring HSE compliance.
• Prepare daily shift reports.

Qualifications required:

• Minimum 10 years of post-trade experience as a Process Plant Electrician or Instrument Technician in mining process plant maintenance.
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in gold processing plants, heavy mining, or similar environments.
• Substantial technical experience in Process Plant Electrical and Instrumentation repairs, installations, and maintenance of large gold processing plant equipment.
• Strong ability to lead, coach, and manage frontline teams and individual team members.
• Good judgment and decision-making skills when assessing difficult situations, equipment conditions, and appropriate corrective actions.
• Ability to develop Job Hazard Analyses and Risk Assessments for assigned maintenance tasks.
• Proactive approach to Process Plant maintenance and commitment to best-practice maintenance regimes and accurate data recording.
• Thorough knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standards.
• Understanding of long-, medium-, and short-term maintenance strategies, planning, shutdowns, project works, and overhaul activities.
• Experience using computerized maintenance management systems.
• Experience in spare parts inventory management.
• General knowledge of defect elimination methodologies and their application.
• Ability to prioritize tasks according to safety, time requirements, and cross-functional organizational needs.
• Strong communication skills at different organizational levels.
• Good English language skills.
• Ability to prepare formal reports, including routine maintenance reports and KPI information.
• Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to upskill and develop Plant Electricians and Instrument Technicians.
• Experience using Pronto is desirable.
• Mandatory trade qualification as an Electrician from a nationally recognized institution.
• Mandatory Tanzania manual driving licence.
• Dual trade qualification as Electrician and Instrument Technician is desirable.
• Supervisory qualifications such as Frontline Management are desirable.
• Safety qualifications are desirable.
• First Aid certificate is desirable.
• Formal training and assessment qualifications are desirable.
