Plant Instrumentation Technician at Perseus Mining Limited

Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Plant Instrumentation Technician to support the installation, calibration, operation, and maintenance of field instrumentation and Control and Instrumentation Systems at the Nyanzaga Gold Project processing facility in Mwanza, Tanzania. The position will contribute to safe, reliable, and high-quality instrumentation activities during both construction and operational phases.

The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary maintenance teams to install and maintain instrumentation infrastructure, carry out planned and unplanned maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, support calibration procedures, and maintain accurate inspection and testing records. The role requires strong technical knowledge, practical mining or industrial experience, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic operational environment.

Responsibilities include:

• Comply with company policies and procedures relating to safety, environment, health, and community relations.

• Ensure maintenance activities comply with Perseus OHS&E and community relations requirements.
• Promote awareness of equipment safety across the site.
• Understand and comply with Tanzania Mining and OSHA regulations relevant to engineering and safety.
• Ensure maintenance personnel understand their OHSE responsibilities and comply with site requirements.
• Participate in relevant incident investigations.
• Maintain awareness of community relations and the interaction between mining operations and local communities.
• Monitor team member fatigue exposures.
• Lead by example and maintain a positive approach while working under pressure.
• Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Install field instrumentation, including instrument supports, brackets, and mounting systems.
• Install HDG, PVC, stainless steel, and flexible instrument conduit.
• Install instrument cable trays and support systems.
• Pull, gland, and terminate instrument cables.
• Install junction boxes, marshalling panels, and local control stations.
• Install stainless steel impulse tubing and pneumatic airlines.
• Install filter regulators, manifolds, solenoid valves, and valve positioners.
• Install instrument earthing and bonding systems.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, hook-up drawings, cable schedules, and GA drawings.
• Maintain high-quality workmanship and rectify punch-list items.
• Coordinate installation activities with Mechanical and Electrical teams.
• Carry out maintenance, repair, and inspection of instrumentation, electrical, and control equipment across the process plant.
• Assist in developing calibration and inspection procedures and systems.
• Carry out planned maintenance in accordance with the electrical maintenance management system.
• Carry out plant modifications in accordance with drawings, standards, and work instructions.
• Perform unplanned maintenance as instructed.
• Maintain accurate inspection and test records in accordance with legislation and plant safety and quality requirements.
• Troubleshoot faulty or defective electrical, control, and instrumentation equipment.
• Assist Operations in diagnosing process problems and failures.
• Provide technical information to the Projects team to support process improvements.
• Perform other related duties assigned by the Supervisor based on the operational requirements of the Nyanzaga Gold Mine.

Qualifications required:

• Minimum 5 years of instrumentation maintenance experience within mining, mineral processing, heavy industry, or a similar environment.
• Knowledge and practical skills in construction and installation works for instrumentation systems.
• Strong understanding of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centred maintenance principles.
• Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
• Proactive approach to Process Plant maintenance and commitment to best-practice maintenance regimes and accurate data recording.
• Thorough knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standards.
• Understanding of long-term, medium-term, and short-term maintenance strategies, planning, shutdowns, project works, and overhaul activities.
• Ability to prioritize tasks according to safety, time requirements, and cross-functional organizational needs.
• Strong communication skills at different organizational levels.
• Good English language skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within a multicultural environment and build collaborative relationships across all levels of an organization.
• Experience within a gold processing operation is desirable.
• Knowledge of instrumentation and process control systems is desirable.
• Experience implementing reliability improvement initiatives is desirable.
• Flexibility, adaptability, and resilience in a dynamic operational environment are desirable.
• Experience using Pronto is desirable.
