KNEC Item Writing Training 2026 for Senior School & Vocational Teachers

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is inviting qualified teachers to apply for its Online Item Writing Training 2026, a professional development programme designed to strengthen the development of high-quality assessment items for Competency-Based Assessment (CBA). The online training will run from 12 October to 30 October 2026.

Teachers who successfully complete the programme will receive a KNEC Certificate and may be considered for engagement in national assessment and examination activities whenever opportunities arise. The training is open to eligible teachers currently teaching at Senior School and Stage-Based Curriculum Vocational Level in Kenya.

Responsibilities

Successful participants will be trained to:

• Develop high-quality competency-based assessment items.
• Apply KNEC standards in classroom and national assessments.
• Design valid and reliable test questions for their subject area.
• Support the implementation of Competency-Based Assessment.
• Contribute to future KNEC assessment and examination activities when required.

Qualifications Required

Applicants must:

• Be a qualified teacher currently teaching at Senior School or Stage-Based Curriculum Vocational Level.
• Be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
• Have at least one year of teaching experience.
• Hold relevant academic and professional qualifications in the subject applied for.
• Be conversant with the curriculum designs for their subject specialization.
• Possess high professional integrity and a good professional record.
• Be formally recommended by the Head of Institution.
• Be a subject specialist in the learning area they wish to apply for.

How to Apply

Interested teachers should submit their applications online through the KNEC Examiners Application Portal before 30 September 2026. Teachers who have previously completed KNEC Item Writing Training are not eligible to apply again.
