BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania is inviting applications from qualified, dynamic, and self-motivated professionals for the position of Senior Officer, Finance & Accounts. The successful candidate will oversee financial and administrative functions while supporting financial reporting, procurement, office administration, logistics, and other operational activities.
BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania has been operating in Tanzania since 2006, with programmes focused on Agriculture, Youth and Women Empowerment, Food Security, and Livelihood. The organization is also implementing an initiative in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and BRAC International to expand economic opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for adolescent girls and young women across several African countries, including Tanzania.
About the Programme
The Mastercard Foundation, in partnership with BRAC International, is implementing a programme designed to create positive and measurable opportunities for 1.2 million adolescent girls and young women across seven countries in East and West Africa: Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The programme supports scalable economic development approaches that strengthen the agency and voice of adolescent girls and young women living in poverty. Through the initiative, participants can pursue their aspirations, develop sustainable livelihoods, and engage in advocacy and community development activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the organization's financial operations and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Enter financial information and maintain complete financial records for projects and organizational activities.
- Review field transactions handled by the AIM Area Accountant.
- Support budget preparation and monitor expenditure to ensure spending remains within approved donor budgets.
- Support internal and external project audits, as well as donor desk reviews.
- Conduct physical branch supervision and verify programme activities.
- Provide financial inputs for proposal development and project management.
- Provide financial guidance relating to Human Resource Management policies, logistics, travel, and other administrative functions.
- Provide orientation and training to staff on cost-effective financial and resource management.
- Ensure financial policies and procedures are properly implemented across the organization.
- Monitor the organization's internal control systems and promote compliance with established procedures.
- Ensure that financial transactions have appropriate and sufficient supporting documentation.
- Ensure financial transactions comply with donor requirements and applicable statutory regulations.
- Monitor timely and adequate accountability for employee IOUs and advances.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Promote a safe working environment where team members are protected from harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation.
- Provide support, guidance, and expertise on safeguarding within the workplace.
- Promote awareness and implementation of BRAC's safeguarding policies among team members.
- Ensure safeguarding standards are considered and applied throughout organizational activities.
- Follow established safeguarding reporting procedures whenever a reportable incident occurs.
- Encourage team members to report safeguarding concerns through the appropriate channels.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Investment, or a related field.
- CPA or ACCA qualification is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in budget preparation, budget analysis, donor reporting, and financial presentations.
- Strong experience in preparing comprehensive financial reports.
- Experience preparing business plans for both commercial businesses and non-profit organizations.
- Ability to conduct market assessments and prepare analytical reports.
- At least 3 years of experience in procurement, administration, and logistical support for businesses and projects.
- Strong understanding of financial management and organizational controls.
- Good computer literacy and ability to work with relevant financial and office systems.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
- Good critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
- Strong leadership, organization, and management skills.
- Effective time-management skills.
