Senior Technical Specialist, Mine Geology – AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania

AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking a Senior Technical Specialist, Mine Geology to provide technical leadership and governance across mine geology systems, processes, and projects supporting both open pit and underground mining operations in Geita. The role focuses on ensuring geological data, modelling, reconciliation, and production tracking workflows remain accurate, reliable, efficient, and aligned with operational objectives.

The successful candidate will support data-driven geological decision-making, optimize ore definition and plant feed blending, strengthen Mine to Mill reconciliation processes, and maintain key geological software and data platforms. The position also involves technical project management, stakeholder engagement, team development, and continuous improvement of geological systems and workflows.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide technical leadership for geological systems and processes supporting open pit and underground mine geology.
• Ensure high-quality geological data analysis, interpretation, and 3D geological modelling.
• Support accurate ore definition and production tracking.
• Maintain and improve Mine to Mill reconciliation processes.
• Ensure material is accurately defined, correctly routed, optimally blended, and reliably reconciled.
• Develop and improve geological systems, models, and data workflows.
• Maintain drill plods, ore tracking, reconciliation, and modelling workflows.
• Administer and maintain geological and production tracking software platforms.
• Oversee software licensing and coordinate with external service providers.
• Analyse geological, operational, and reconciliation data to support decision-making.
• Identify system gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare high-quality, timely, and operationally relevant analysis and reports.
• Plan, prioritize, and execute technical projects and initiatives in complex geological and operational environments.
• Work with geology, mining, processing, and other departments to strengthen geological capability and workflow effectiveness.
• Mentor and coach geology staff to improve technical capability and performance.
• Engage with Process, Mining Technical Services, and Mining Production teams on Mine to Mill reconciliation matters.
• Liaise with ABU and other corporate functions when technical support is required.
• Assign and delegate tasks to subordinates with clear objectives, timelines, and resources.
• Develop work plans and communicate implementation requirements to subordinates.
• Conduct performance appraisals and reviews for subordinates.
• Support team building, coaching, and employee development.
• Identify development needs and unrealized opportunities within the team.
• Recognize and recommend employees for rewards or promotion based on performance.

Qualifications and requirements include:

• BSc (Hons) in Geology.
• Registration with a recognized professional body.
• Must be a Tanzanian citizen.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in the mining industry.
• At least 5 years of experience in mineral resource evaluation for gold deposits.
• Proven project management and team supervision experience.
• Strong knowledge of Mine to Mill reconciliation processes.
• Advanced skills in geological data analysis, interpretation, and 3D geological modelling.
• Competence in computer-aided geological software, including Datamine, Leapfrog, and Geovariance Isatis.
• Proficiency in production tracking platforms such as Connected Mine or similar systems.
• Competence in Power BI, SQL Server, and Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of drilling, sampling, grade control, and resource evaluation workflows.
• Technical understanding of geometallurgical proxies and ore performance characteristics.
• Ability to develop, maintain, and improve geological systems, processes, and models.
• Strong software administration and licensing management capabilities.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with external service providers.
• Experience managing drill plods, ore tracking, reconciliation, and modelling data workflows.
• Strong ability to analyse geological, operational, and reconciliation data.
• Ability to identify system gaps and inefficiencies and develop continuous improvement solutions.
• Ability to make sound and timely technical decisions in complex geological and operational environments.
