Senior Supervisor – UG Mining Service & Construction at AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania

AngloGold Ashanti Tanzania is seeking an experienced mining professional for the position of Senior Supervisor – UG Mining Service & Construction in Geita. The role focuses on supervising underground mining activities and ensuring that drilling, blasting, ground support, infrastructure, bogging, haulage, services, safety, and workforce training meet planned production and operational targets.

The successful candidate will provide leadership to underground teams, coordinate mining resources, monitor equipment and workplace conditions, and work closely with other departments and contractors. The position also requires strong attention to safety, production planning, cost control, environmental standards, and compliance with underground mining procedures.

Responsibilities

• Analyze production data and prepare regular mine production reports.
• Coordinate with other departments to maintain safe and efficient production.
• Identify production challenges and recommend practical solutions.
• Complete safety leading indicators and Critical Control Verification activities.
• Ensure incidents are reported, investigated, and followed up according to company procedures.
• Ensure mining activities comply with approved underground standards and procedures.
• Support supervisors in planning daily, weekly, and monthly mining activities.
• Monitor production KPIs covering development metres, production metres, and ore movement.
• Coordinate manpower requirements, work rosters, and annual leave schedules.
• Monitor the effectiveness of employee training and machine allocation.
• Participate in weekly and monthly production planning meetings.
• Lead safety stoppage meetings and address employee concerns and previous incidents.
• Coordinate contractors working within underground mining areas.
• Monitor the performance and conduct of employees and provide feedback to management.
• Inspect underground projects and help resolve delays or operational challenges.
• Ensure underground equipment receives scheduled maintenance.
• Maintain adequate stocks of underground consumables.
• Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) activities when required.
• Ensure production trucks follow approved communication and traffic management plans.
• Prepare work areas to support production equipment in achieving daily targets.
• Provide additional support to Star & Comet operations when required.
• Monitor overtime to manage workforce fatigue and operational costs.
• Ensure adequate equipment availability and utilization.
• Ensure sufficient manpower is available for upcoming shifts.
• Supervise dispatchers and monitor the quality of operational information.
• Identify high-performing employees and support recognition and award initiatives.
• Maintain good housekeeping and ensure proper waste segregation and disposal.
• Ensure environmental incidents, including chemical and hydrocarbon spills, are reported.
• Ensure underground supervisors understand and comply with statutory and company requirements.
• Review daily, weekly, and monthly work plans with supervisors.
• Conduct workplace inspections and ensure identified hazards are corrected.
• Ensure underground personnel understand their duty-of-care responsibilities.
• Prevent damage to underground equipment and infrastructure.
• Monitor operational wastage and support cost-control measures.
• Inspect underground work areas and ensure compliance with departmental safety indicators.
• Check that active headings have appropriate scaling bars.
• Inspect underground air, water, electrical, ventilation, and discharge infrastructure.

Qualifications Required

• Completion of secondary school education.
• Valid driving licence.
• Valid blasting certificates are an added advantage.
• At least 8 years of experience in underground mining operations.
• At least 4 years of supervisory experience in sublevel longitudinal stoping and transverse mining operations.
• Previous experience as an Underground Supervisor.
• Previous experience as an Underground Senior Supervisor.
• Experience working in a mechanized mine.
• Proven ability to lead and manage large, diverse teams.
• Experience operating underground mining equipment.
• Strong knowledge of underground mining, haulage, and backfilling.
• Demonstrated experience in production planning, task delegation, resource allocation, and operational management.
• Ability to make independent decisions and develop contingency plans.
• Strong understanding of safe mining practices and relevant international mining standards.
• Proven ability to lead teams toward successful operational outcomes.
• Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse workforce.
• Ability to collaborate across different mining disciplines.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining strict safety and operational priorities.
• Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
