Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Masters Scholarship 2026/2027

The Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by the Bank of Tanzania on 12 October 2009 to commemorate the achievements of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, the Father of the Nation. The scholarship supports outstanding Tanzanian students pursuing higher education in fields that contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) has announced the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Memorial Masters’ Degree Scholarship and will receive applications from eligible Tanzanian candidates. The scholarship is awarded through an academic merit-based and transparent selection process.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Must be a citizen of the United Republic of Tanzania.
• Must have obtained a Bachelor’s Degree with First Class or Upper Second Class Honours, or an Advanced Diploma with the required minimum grade from an accredited institution in Tanzania.
• Must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Science, Mathematics, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting, or Finance.
• Must have been admitted or applied for admission to pursue a Master’s degree in an eligible field.
• Must have applied for or obtained admission to a full-time Master’s degree programme at an accredited university in Tanzania.
• The Master’s programme must commence during the 2026/2027 academic year.
• Applicants must satisfy the academic and programme requirements specified in the scholarship guidelines.

Applicants are required to provide the following supporting documents:

• Current National Physical Address (NaPA) issued by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology.
• Copy of the applicant’s NIDA card.
• Birth certificate issued by RITA for applicants born in Mainland Tanzania or ZCSRA for applicants born in Zanzibar.
• A letter from RITA or ZCSRA validating birth information for applicants born abroad, where applicable.
• Employer’s release letter allowing the applicant to undertake full-time studies, for employed applicants.
• Relevant academic documents required under the application process.
• Admission Letter or other proof of admission.

The scholarship provides comprehensive financial support to successful applicants. It covers university direct costs, including tuition fees and other eligible university expenses, as well as student direct costs in accordance with the institution’s approved cost structure.

How to Apply:

Eligible applicants should complete and submit the scholarship application online through the Online Loan Application System (OLAMS) within the prescribed application period.

The application window for the 2026/2027 academic year opens on 5 September 2026 and closes on 5 October 2026.

Applicants should carefully read and follow the application guidelines, ensure that supporting documents are approved by the relevant authorities, and provide a registered and reachable mobile phone number. Applicants should also review the completed application form and make any necessary corrections before submitting it.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

An applicant who is not selected may submit a written appeal to HESLB within 14 days from the date of publication of the scholarship selection results. Appeals will only be considered where there is evidence of a procedural error or omission.
