Vodacom Tanzania Plc is seeking a qualified and experienced professional for the position of HOD: Sustainability, Foundation & Partnership in Dar es Salaam. This full-time leadership opportunity is suitable for professionals with strong expertise in sustainability, ESG, social impact, partnerships, corporate purpose, and strategic leadership.

The successful candidate will lead Vodacom Tanzania’s Sustainability, Foundation and Sustainable Business team within External Affairs. The role will be responsible for designing and delivering the company’s Purpose strategy, including the Vodacom Tanzania Foundation strategy, while strengthening ESG governance, social impact, strategic partnerships, sustainability reporting, and responsible business practices.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Lead the Vodacom Tanzania Foundation strategy, governance, and programme portfolio.
• Ensure Foundation programmes deliver measurable social impact aligned with business purpose and national development priorities.
• Deliver the 2030 Vision and leadership ambition within the wider Vodafone ambition.
• Lead ESG governance at executive and Board level.
• Define and embed ESG reporting and assurance processes.
• Strengthen ESG disclosure and transparency through mandatory and voluntary reporting.
• Lead engagement with targeted external stakeholders, including ESG ratings agencies.
• Work with Vodafone to establish a future-ready Vodacom ESG operating model.
• Implement sustainability programmes with commercial business lines and support functions.
• Address priority sustainability issues and support alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Group purpose.
• Identify, negotiate, and manage strategic partnerships that enhance social impact.
• Develop partnerships that strengthen the organization’s sustainability leadership and differentiation.
• Lead and develop a team of Sustainability and Foundation experts.
• Serve as the Purpose centre of excellence and provide strategic, tactical, and operational guidance across the business.
• Build organizational capacity to support effective ESG delivery.
• Lead the ongoing review and adaptation of the ESG framework and approach.
• Respond to internal developments and changes in the external sustainability landscape.
• Consider findings from external and independent assessments, civil society and NGO reports, and ESG ratings when adapting the ESG approach.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants should have:

• A Bachelor’s Degree at minimum.
• Proven people leadership experience.
• Experience working in a matrixed, multinational, or pan-African organization is an advantage.
• Ability to communicate in both Swahili and English is advantageous.
• Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate strategy into executable actions.
• Strong leadership presence and ability to influence stakeholders internally and externally.
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively across functions, countries, and cultures, including engagement at Board level.
• Strong prioritization, judgement, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to build, develop, and delegate responsibilities to high-performing teams.
• Expert knowledge of ESG principles and practices.
• Knowledge of Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.
• Knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
• Knowledge of the UN Global Compact.
• Knowledge of the GHG Protocol, SASB standards, and TCFD is advantageous.
