Health and Safety Officer – Food Hygiene at RIU Hotels & Resorts, September 2026

RIU Hotels & Resorts is inviting qualified and experienced professionals to apply for the position of Health and Safety Officer – Food Hygiene based in Zanzibar. This full-time opportunity is ideal for candidates with a strong background in occupational health and safety, food hygiene, and regulatory compliance within the hospitality industry.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe working environment for both guests and employees by implementing hotel-wide health and safety standards, conducting inspections, coordinating emergency preparedness, and ensuring compliance with national legislation and RIU operational policies.

Responsibilities include:

• Oversee and implement hotel-wide health and safety practices and risk assessments.
• Monitor compliance with statutory and company health and safety regulations.
• Conduct routine inspections to identify workplace hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Train employees on emergency procedures, safe working practices, and first aid.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and prepare detailed reports.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and safety training activities.
• Coordinate fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises.
• Collaborate with department heads to develop and improve workplace safety strategies.

Qualifications required:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the hospitality industry.
• Strong knowledge of local and international health, safety, and fire regulations.
• First Aid Training Certification.
• Prior experience in food science and food hygiene.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive attitude with the ability to influence a safety-first culture.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to prepare basic reports in English.
