Business Development Officer (Internship) at Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC)

The Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) is seeking a motivated Business Development Officer Intern to support membership management, communication, stakeholder engagement, and event coordination at its Tanga Regional Office. The internship provides an opportunity for a young, strategic, and innovative professional to contribute to organizational growth and initiatives focused on empowering women and youth in business.

The successful candidate will support member recruitment and retention, maintain membership records, coordinate regional communications, assist with events, and build relationships with government institutions, private sector organizations, development partners, and business associations. The role requires strong communication, organizational, analytical, and teamwork skills, together with a willingness to learn and adapt.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of TWCC members in the Tanga region.
  • Recruit prospective members and maintain relationships with existing members.
  • Develop and implement member engagement strategies to support retention.
  • Assist with membership communication and information gathering through online surveys.
  • Collect and receive membership dues and event-related payments.
  • Maintain reports on current dues, outstanding payments, invoices, statements, and event income activities in the region.
  • Communicate with members and collect relevant information from regional to ward levels.
  • Prepare and share weekly event information with TWCC members through respective regional WhatsApp groups.
  • Assist the Communication Officer by providing weekly activity reports for the preparation of weekly updates.
  • Prepare monthly membership reports, including new regional members and monthly fees collected from each district.
  • Prepare monthly membership data reports, including quarterly tracking and retention statistics.
  • Maintain professional communication on behalf of TWCC through regional groups.
  • Assist in coordinating TWCC events such as Breakfast Meetings, Trade Fairs, and B2B activities.
  • Coordinate events and activities assigned by Regional Leaders with authorization from TWCC Head Office.
  • Organize time and priorities effectively to achieve event-related objectives.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with government institutions, private sector organizations, development partners, business associations, and other relevant regional stakeholders.
  • Support the identification and engagement of potential partners who can contribute to TWCC programs, membership growth, and business development initiatives.
  • Coordinate communication between TWCC and regional stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and information sharing.
  • Represent TWCC professionally at stakeholder meetings, networking events, forums, and other assigned engagements.
  • Source and share relevant information with members in the region on a daily basis.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure quality service is provided to TWCC members.
  • Prepare regional membership welcome, retention and renewal, thank-you, and invitation letters.
  • Identify opportunities that may benefit members and facilitate appropriate linkages.
  • Participate in conferences and training activities as directed.
  • Attend meetings and activities that may take place outside regular working hours when required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Development Studies, Economics, Rural and Community Development, or another related field.
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in supporting business development initiatives.
  • Experience participating in fundraising activities for events or projects is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fundraising experience is an added advantage.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic working environment.
  • Strong interest in supporting women and youth in business is desirable.
