Community Relations Superintendent at Perseus Mining Limited

Perseus Mining Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Community Relations Superintendent to lead and manage community relations strategies and programs in Mwanza, Tanzania. The position will work closely with local communities, government authorities and other stakeholders to build positive relationships, address community concerns and support the sustainable development objectives of the project.

The successful candidate will oversee community engagement activities while ensuring compliance with Tanzanian legislation and relevant international industry practices. The role also involves supervising community relations teams, supporting resettlement and compensation processes, monitoring stakeholder engagement and maintaining effective communication with communities and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

• Develop and implement community relations strategies aligned with company objectives and local regulations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between the company and local communities.
• Maintain open and transparent communication with community members and stakeholders.
• Lead community engagement activities, including public consultations, community meetings and awareness programs.
• Address and resolve community grievances and concerns in a timely and effective manner.
• Collaborate with government authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders on community development initiatives.
• Monitor and report on the social impacts of mining activities on local communities.
• Ensure compliance with applicable environmental and social standards.
• Manage and support a team of Community Relations Officers.
• Prepare and submit regular reports covering community relations activities, progress, challenges and recommendations.
• Support resettlement and compensation processes and ensure they are conducted fairly and transparently.
• Promote ethical practices, corporate social responsibility and sustainable development.
• Distribute information regarding the RAP implementation process to internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain a daily presence in communities to address concerns, facilitate discussions and strengthen relationships.
• Assist with internal and external monitoring of stakeholder engagement activities.
• Ensure contractors adhere to relevant community engagement procedures and protocols.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Relations or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine-site community roles.
• At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or superintendent position.
• Experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement or social performance within the mining or extractive industries.
• Strong understanding of Tanzanian laws and regulations relating to community relations, corporate social responsibility and local content.
• Experience in social development project management at operations or site level.
• Experience planning and executing activities within a project environment.
• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
• Excellent listening skills and the ability to understand stakeholder concerns, feedback and needs.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and stakeholders.
• Confidence and clarity in public speaking and community presentations.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Swahili.
• Ability to prepare reports, deliver presentations and facilitate meetings.
• Basic knowledge of Sukuma is an added advantage.
• Resilience, flexibility and adaptability when working in a dynamic environment.
• Self-confidence and composure when interacting with personnel at different organizational levels.
• Ability to plan, schedule and manage priorities effectively.
• Good computer literacy and ability to use standard and custom software packages.
• High levels of personal integrity and financial accountability.
