Spray Painter at Sandvik

Sandvik is seeking a focused and hardworking individual to join its Rock Processing business area as a Spray Painter. The full-time position is based in Spartan, Kempton Park, South Africa, and involves applying paint finishes and protective coatings to manufactured products using manual spray equipment or automated systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paint coatings, maintaining spray equipment, checking finished work, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. The role requires practical industrial painting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to follow technical and safety requirements.

Responsibilities include:

• Set up and operate spray painting equipment.
• Prepare and mix painting materials to achieve the required colour and consistency.
• Prepare surfaces through washing and masking before painting.
• Sand surfaces where required.
• Apply primer, main coats, and finishing coats.
• Inspect completed work as part of quality control.
• Clean and maintain spray painting equipment.
• Identify and resolve issues related to paint application, surface treatment, and quality.
• Follow instructions and ensure work is completed according to company standards.
• Maintain a clean, neat, and safe working area.
• Complete assigned tasks within expected job timeframes.
• Check the quality of completed work before handover.
• Provide clear instructions and technical guidance to colleagues where required.
• Maintain and repair mechanical equipment where possible and report faulty equipment to the manager.
• Take proper care of equipment issued for work.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.
• Provide technical advice and support to co-workers.
• Assist with coaching and development of colleagues.
• Follow applicable occupational health and safety requirements and report accidents, injuries, and near misses.
• Operate overhead cranes within prescribed safety requirements.
• Operate forklifts within prescribed safety requirements.

Qualifications and requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• 3–5 years of experience painting manufactured metal components in a metal industry environment.
• Practical experience with industrial painting techniques and requirements.
• Practical and hands-on approach to work.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Strong work ethic and honesty.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Positive, can-do attitude.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Ability to perform repetitive work while maintaining concentration.
• Good eye-hand coordination.
• Ability to read, write, and correctly interpret instructions.
• Physical fitness suitable for the requirements of the role.
