Specialist: Fibre Optic Design & Planning at Vodacom Tanzania Plc

Vodacom Tanzania Plc is inviting applications from qualified telecommunications professionals for the position of Specialist: Fibre Optic Design & Planning in Dar es Salaam. This full-time opportunity is suitable for candidates with experience in fibre optic network planning, design, optimization, capacity forecasting, and infrastructure development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and designing fibre optic infrastructure supporting FTTH, FTTx, FTTS, transport, and enterprise connectivity services. The role will also ensure that fibre network solutions are scalable, secure, resilient, cost-effective, and aligned with Vodafone Group standards, regulatory requirements, and business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize fibre network architectures for FTTH, FTTx, FTTS, metro, NLD backbone, and enterprise connectivity services.
• Develop ODN designs, fibre allocation plans, and end-to-end technical solutions.
• Conduct fibre network feasibility studies and plan routes, ducts, aerial infrastructure, and shared infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate GIS, KMZ, network asset, and as-built records.
• Provide technical and commercial input into business cases, investment plans, and procurement documents.
• Evaluate fibre network suppliers, technologies, and proposed solutions.
• Ensure fibre designs comply with Vodafone Group architecture, security, engineering, and regulatory standards.
• Govern design quality and collaborate with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
• Forecast fibre capacity and future network demand.
• Develop network expansion, site-fibreisation, redundancy, and resilience strategies.
• Define technology roadmaps aligned with business growth and future network requirements.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), or another relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in telecommunications.
• Proven experience in fibre optic network planning, design, capacity forecasting, infrastructure development, and network expansion projects.
• Strong knowledge of FTTH, FTTx, FTTS, GPON, XGS-PON, metro, backbone, and enterprise fibre networks.
• Experience in ODN design, fibre allocation, route planning, duct and aerial network design, and infrastructure optimization.
• Knowledge of optical transport, OTN, IP/MPLS, fibre technologies, and relevant ITU-T standards.
• Experience with GIS and KMZ mapping, network inventory management, technical documentation, and as-built records.
• Ability to prepare and review BoQs, RFIs, RFQs, RFPs, and Statements of Work (SoWs).
• Strong capacity planning, demand forecasting, analytical, problem-solving, and project planning skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with contractors, suppliers, regulatory authorities, and internal teams in multi-vendor environments.
• Fibre Optic Design, GPON/XGS-PON, ODN Planning, GIS Mapping, or related professional certifications will be an added advantage.
