Job Description

Barrick is seeking a qualified and experienced Tax Accountant to join its finance team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This full-time position is responsible for managing tax compliance, statutory reporting, reconciliations, and tax-related accounting activities while ensuring the company complies with all applicable tax legislation and mining fiscal requirements.

The successful candidate will work closely with finance, payroll, procurement, commercial, and operational teams to manage corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, transfer pricing, royalties, and other tax obligations. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong tax expertise and experience in the mining or extractive industry.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and review corporate income tax returns, tax calculations, and supporting schedules.
  • Manage VAT, withholding tax, payroll-related taxes, and other indirect tax obligations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of tax returns, declarations, and statutory reports.
  • Perform monthly and annual tax reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate tax accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on business operations.
  • Support tax audits, reviews, and enquiries from tax authorities.
  • Review contracts, invoices, and business transactions for tax implications.
  • Assist with transfer pricing documentation and related-party tax matters.
  • Support tax planning initiatives while maintaining full regulatory compliance.
  • Manage mining-specific taxes including royalties and resource-related fiscal obligations.
  • Prepare tax reports and analysis for management decision-making.
  • Maintain effective tax risk and compliance controls.
  • Support internal and external audits with required tax documentation.
  • Contribute to process improvements and automation of tax reporting procedures.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
  • CPA(T), ACCA, or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and Tanzanian tax legislation.
  • Good understanding of corporate income tax and indirect taxation.
  • Knowledge of mining taxation, royalties, and extractive industry fiscal regimes.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in tax accounting or tax compliance.
  • Experience within the mining, oil & gas, or extractive industry is preferred.
  • Experience with tax reconciliations, deferred tax, and statutory reporting.
  • Experience dealing with tax authorities and supporting tax audits.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar accounting systems.
