Capital Project Superintendent – Barrick

Barrick is seeking a Capital Project Superintendent to join the Engineering department at Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Kahama, Shinyanga. The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager and take responsibility for leading major capital construction projects from mobilisation through completion, commissioning, and final handover.

The role involves coordinating multidisciplinary project teams, contractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers while maintaining control over project costs, schedules, quality, technical standards, and governance. Candidates with strong project management experience and a background in large-scale mining or fixed-plant construction projects are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead major capital construction projects from mobilisation through completion and handover.
• Coordinate and supervise project installations, commissioning, and testing.
• Manage contractors, subcontractors, consultants, specialists, and site teams.
• Prepare scopes of work for multidisciplinary project activities.
• Work with the department manager to develop project plans, budgets, and schedules using MS Project or equivalent.
• Manage project cost, schedule, and quality control functions.
• Manage QA/QC activities and maintain the technical integrity and consistency of design outputs.
• Develop engineering solutions that meet or exceed project requirements.
• Participate in project risk analysis and support the development of risk management plans.
• Ensure effective change management and operational readiness before project handover.
• Provide the technical interface with equipment suppliers and contractors.
• Develop and maintain a job records database while ensuring data integrity.
• Ensure purchase requisitions are prepared accurately and submitted on time.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly project reports accurately and within required deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with procedures and corporate governance requirements throughout project activities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a Project Management role.
• Project Management certification is advantageous.
• Registration with an internationally recognised Professional Engineering Council is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of project management principles, methods, techniques, and tools.
• Experience working on large-scale multidisciplinary projects valued at more than USD 10,000,000.
• Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, civil, and instrumentation systems.
• Experience developing project schedules and plans using MS Project or an equivalent system.
• Experience in process plant, paste backfill plant, pump stations, and other fixed-plant construction.
• Strong numerical and financial management skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultures and organisational levels.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team while maintaining a professional approach.
• Mining industry experience is an added advantage.
