Survey Technician – Barrick

Barrick is seeking to recruit a Survey Technician to join the Survey team at Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Kahama, Shinyanga. The successful candidate will support the Mine Surveyor with underground development pickups, survey control, stakeouts, survey equipment maintenance, and accurate record keeping.

The position requires practical experience in underground mining surveying, knowledge of conventional surveying methods, and the ability to work safely within a mining environment. Candidates with relevant survey qualifications and at least two years of underground mining surveying experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities include:

• Follow safe work practices, attend required safety courses and meetings, use PPE correctly, report incidents and accidents, and comply with Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental policies.
• Carry out development pickups and process pickup data for active underground mining headings.
• Record all fired rounds accurately to support monitoring of development trends.
• Set up and operate the DGPS base station system.
• Compile survey information in a reliable system for retrieval and use.
• File survey station reports and mine stakeout plans correctly.
• Position and place survey stations as directed by the Mine Surveyor.
• Install grade pins, lasers, and survey stations underground and set up instruments below stations.
• Perform face mark-ups and mark-ups of EH and PH holes.
• Conduct borehole surveys for production holes, including downhole and uphole surveys.
• Conduct regular stock-taking of survey consumables and maintain minimum stock levels.
• Number and charge batteries for electronic survey equipment and maintain records of the required discharging process.
• Complete daily vehicle cleaning checks, report defects promptly, and liaise with the Maintenance Department during scheduled services.
• Assist the Mine Surveyor with tasks related to maintaining survey control.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Survey Technician's Certificate.
• Technician certificate in a survey-related field such as Geomatics, Cartography, Civil Engineering, or Mine Surveying.
• Minimum 2 years of working experience in underground mining surveying.
• Experience working as a Survey Assistant in an underground mining environment.
• Sufficient on-the-job training and documented underground mining surveying experience acceptable to company authorities.
• Sound practical experience in conventional surveying methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Knowledge of MS Office programs is beneficial.
• A drone pilot licence from TCAA is an added advantage.
