BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania is inviting applications from qualified, dynamic, and self-motivated professionals for the position of Senior Officer, IT. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive technical support to regional offices, branches, and programme teams while ensuring reliable IT systems, connectivity, hardware, software, and business applications.
BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania has been operating in Tanzania since 2006, with a focus on Agriculture, Youth and Women Empowerment, Food Security, and Livelihood. The organization is implementing a programme in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and BRAC International that seeks to expand opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for adolescent girls and young women across seven African countries, including Tanzania.
About the Programme
The Mastercard Foundation, in partnership with BRAC International, is implementing an initiative designed to create positive and measurable opportunities for 1.2 million adolescent girls and young women across Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The programme uses scalable economic development approaches to strengthen the agency and voice of adolescent girls and young women living in poverty. It supports participants in pursuing their aspirations, developing sustainable livelihoods, and engaging in advocacy and community development.
About the Role
The Senior Officer, IT will provide first-level technical support to regional offices and branches within the assigned locations. The role covers hardware, end-user devices, software, internet and network connectivity, business applications, and other technology services used by BRAC teams.
The position will also work closely with the Country IT team and other internal technology teams to resolve complex technical issues, maintain accurate support records, train users, and ensure that IT practices comply with BRAC International technology standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-line technical support for country business applications, including BInsight, SBI Cloud, Orbit, and other systems.
- Coordinate with the Senior Manager, IT to log, monitor, and resolve user issues efficiently.
- Assess complex technical problems that cannot be resolved on-site and escalate them to the appropriate internal teams.
- Document escalated technical issues with relevant details and root-cause analysis through Jira.
- Maintain stable and secure connectivity across offices by managing routers, switches, and wireless access points.
- Diagnose and resolve network connectivity problems promptly.
- Install, configure, and maintain laptops, desktops, printers, scanners, and other IT equipment.
- Provide timely technical support to end-users and assist with endpoint protection, antivirus, and patch management.
- Build positive working relationships with end-users by understanding their business needs and managing expectations effectively.
- Provide responsive and professional IT support to users across assigned locations.
- Serve as a key liaison between field teams, programme teams, and the Country IT team.
- Support effective communication and coordination on technology initiatives.
- Maintain accurate records of technical support activities, issues, resolutions, and user communications.
- Update ticketing and knowledge-base systems with relevant support information.
- Provide in-person training and technical assistance to end-users on application usage and IT best practices.
- Assist with technical onboarding for new employees and clients at their assigned locations.
- Support the establishment and implementation of IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Promote compliance with global technology standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Travel to branch and client locations as required to provide technical support.
Safeguarding Responsibilities
- Promote a safe working environment where team members are protected from harm, abuse, neglect, harassment, and exploitation.
- Provide support and guidance on safeguarding practices within the workplace.
- Promote BRAC's safeguarding policies and encourage staff to follow established standards.
- Ensure safeguarding principles are considered throughout IT and organizational activities.
- Follow established safeguarding reporting procedures whenever a reportable incident occurs.
- Encourage colleagues to report safeguarding concerns through the appropriate channels.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in technical support, application support, field service, or a related IT role.
- Proven experience troubleshooting software and configuring applications.
- Experience handling application errors and providing application support.
- Experience working in an international NGO or development organization is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with cloud-based systems, data governance, and digital transformation.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving software application issues.
- Basic understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, and firewalls.
- Good knowledge of operating systems such as Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work across different functions and cultures.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and commitment to organizational values.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions while considering business requirements and organizational capacity.
- Ability to support change management and adoption of new technologies.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively to assigned branch and client locations.
