Strategy Monitoring Analyst at NMB Bank Plc

NMB Bank Plc is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Strategy Monitoring Analyst in Dar es Salaam. The role supports the execution of the Bank’s strategic plan through data-driven monitoring, performance analysis, and strategic insights that help management make informed business decisions.

The successful candidate will collect and analyse information from different sources, monitor strategic initiatives and key performance indicators, identify emerging trends and risks, and translate complex data into practical recommendations. The position also involves working closely with business units and support functions to track strategic performance and strengthen data-driven decision-making across the Bank.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the implementation of the Bank’s strategic initiatives and track progress against agreed milestones and timelines.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the strategy execution monitoring framework and initiative tracker.
  • Monitor strategic Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance scorecards across business units.
  • Track execution against the Medium-Term Plan (MTP) and annual strategy.
  • Identify execution risks, delays, and bottlenecks and escalate significant issues appropriately.
  • Follow up with business units to ensure timely submission and validation of strategic performance information.
  • Collect, consolidate, and analyse operational, financial, and strategic data from multiple sources.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and performance drivers.
  • Interrogate data to answer strategic business questions and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Develop analytical models and datasets to support strategy monitoring and business performance analysis.
  • Validate data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before reporting.
  • Work closely with the Strategy Data team to define data requirements and make effective use of available analytical tools.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis to explain performance deviations and identify underlying business issues.
  • Analyse customers, products, channels, sectors, and portfolios to support strategic decision-making.
  • Recommend improvements to performance measurement methods and analytical processes.
  • Translate complex data into meaningful business insights and practical recommendations.
  • Analyse business performance against strategic objectives and explain the main factors driving results.
  • Identify emerging risks, opportunities, and strategic trends that require management attention.
  • Conduct strategic deep dives into key initiatives, customer segments, products, sectors, and business issues.
  • Evaluate new strategic initiatives and value propositions against expected business outcomes.
  • Support the development of business cases through financial and strategic analysis.
  • Provide analytical support for strategy reviews, planning sessions, and special projects.
  • Work closely with business units to understand performance drivers and strategic priorities.
  • Liaise with the Strategy Data team to obtain and validate analytical outputs.
  • Develop effective working relationships with Finance, Retail, Wholesale, Treasury, Digital, and other support functions.
  • Facilitate discussions with initiative owners to understand implementation progress and challenges.
  • Promote a data-driven decision-making culture across the organization.

Qualifications Required

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query, Pivot Tables, advanced formulas, and data modelling.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to interrogate and interpret complex datasets.
  • Working knowledge of SQL for data extraction and analysis is highly desirable.
  • Experience using Power BI or similar data visualization tools.
  • Good understanding of data quality management and analytical methodologies.
  • Strong financial and business performance analysis skills.
  • Strong strategic analysis and business insight capabilities.
  • Ability to apply strategic thinking, commercial awareness, and analytical problem-solving to business challenges.
  • Ability to translate complex data into business opportunities, risks, and actionable insights.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills for effectively communicating analytical findings to stakeholders.
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver quality work within tight deadlines.
